John is based on Ruby, and his hammer is able to shoot airwaves and shit
Dave is based on Weiss, and his sword can obviously do timey wimey magic
Rose is based on Blake, and she dual wields her wand which she can launch them and retrieve it by pulling on the strings attached to them
And Jade is based on Yang. Her gauntlet is also able to shoot bullets (but the mechanism is more similar to assault rifles instead of shotgun)
